Brief
on Agency for Village Support in the Gambia (VA) Village
AiD The Gambia (VATG)VATG Home an affiliate of Village AiD UK, has
been working with the people of Lower Saloum District in Central River Division
North since 1991. VATG has a mission of working with poor and vulnerable people
in particular women, and this is reflected in the project title: working
with the most marginalized women in The Gambia.
Village
Aid has maintained a strong working relationship
with various NGO’s throughout the Gambia, including the National Association
of Cooperative Credit Unions of the Gambia (NACCUG) and Gambian Food and
Agricultural Nutrition Association (GAFNA).
In cooperation with NACCUG, a wide body of experience has been developed
in the area of enterprise development linked to savings and credit mobilisation.
GAFNA has been a highly effective partner in the areas of food processing and
provision of saving devices to rural communities throughout the country.
Village Aid has just
completed a successful five-year programme
funded by DFID in the areas of. REFLECT literacy,
Agric-extension support, Micro-credit and
enterprise development, Institutional capacity building including lobbying and
advocacy and Civic education. Our MissionWorking with poor and vulnerable people particularly Women who are most marginalized women in The Gambia. VATG Profile
